Atlas of Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, From Actual Surveys by and under the Direction of F. W. Beers. Published by F. W. Beers & Co., 93 & 95 Maiden Lane, New York. 1872. Louis E. Newmanm Engraver. Cha.s Hart, Lithographer. Entered according to Act of Congress A.D. 1872 by F. W. Beers & Co., in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington. Page 1 is the title page; page 2 is the table of contents; page 3 is a table of distances, pages 4-5 are an "Early History of Cumberland County." The maps starts on page 6 with a Map of the entire state of Pennsylvania. Page 7 is a map of the entire county of Cumberland. Pages 8-48+ (there are 3 pages numbered 46 & two numbered 45) have hand-colored maps of boroughs, townships & towns in Cumberland Co. including Carlisle; Shippensburg; Mechanicsburg; etc... Overall it contains 32 hand-colored maps (single-page, double-page, & triple-page). The maps are numbered with page numbers 6 - 48 but double page maps have two page numbers, so counting these as single maps, there are 32 complete maps. SNIPPET CONDITION: Spine cover repaired with newer bookbinder's cloth tape. boards shaken - front board nearly detached - held on only by single staple in mull; boards stained & faded; edges of boards worn; missing front free end-paper; the title page has a small hole in the upper margin & small tears on the edges; small stains, smudges, foxing spots & age toning on title page and throughout entire contents; pages 17-19 have small holes along the length of the fore-edges (silverfish damage); there is a small stain on the bottom edges of pages 33-37; small hole on fore-edge of page 45; the second page 45 has small holes (silverfish damage); the Shippensburg map has a 9" tear on the right edge; the Newton map has a 4" tear on the top edge; the Penn map has several tears on the upper edge and is splitting along the binding fold at the top; the last two pages have stains along the bottom edges; the last page has a 3" tear along the inner / binding edge; .
