Strong scent.
Bought this as a dog repellent. Some jerk neighbor let her mini mut poop in my yard and didn't clean it up. Over and over. So I took this and sprinkled it along the edge of the road in the grass. Re applied after a heavy rain. But now it's like stuck into the dogs memory and the little turd avoids my yard like its cougar skat! Tha ks for making it smell so potent! Its perfect!!

Honestly I’ve never tasted this red pepper. I purchased it as a favor for two people who have been dealing with unwanted animal visits. No one wants to harm our ecosystem yet there are times when coexisting can be difficult especially within gardens. Essentially red pepper can be a huge deterrent for animals because their senses are sensitive. This is a great non-toxic solution for most animals. You may have to repeat the spread regularly but most animals learn pretty quickly to avoid unwelcoming locations. I don’t know if there are any changes to the soil when pepper is applied so maybe handle with care in the beginning around sensitive vegetation.

Just thought I'd add to the other reviews the distinguishing factor that this is the GROUND version of the red pepper flakes one buys at the supermarket. I love red pepper's slight heat and rich flavor. Pepper flakes don't really get the flavor in the food as well as the ground version. The flavor of this red pepper is good. No flavor issues here. The container wasn't nearly filled to the top but this is common buying seasonings in this size. The price (around $8) is decent for the amount - even as a heavy user this is doing just fine; I use it probably several times a week but a little goes a long way. But I haven't been able to find this pepper easily so I don't know if this price is competitive. I usually pay around $5-$6 for other ground seasonings but red pepper isn't commonly ground I guess. I'd say check around but you might be here because you couldn't find it. Overall decent purchase. Removed a star because container could have had some more in here (filled up) for this price.

Red Pepper to Deter Pests
First of all, this pepper is sealed for freshness. Once you remove the paper covering, the aroma of the spice just hits you and your mouth starts salivating. To boot, I was expecting maybe 1/20th the quantity of what this product comes with. Apparently I have no idea of what 12 oz pepper looks like. That's almost 1 lb, ,so expect to get a large container. Superb value for money. I expect it will last me a good while.

More red pepper than you can shake a stick at!
I had been looking for a large size of cayenne pepper. I actually use mine to cook with. I read other reviews that use pepper for other things. My point of view is for the cooking folks. After trying different kinds buying smaller bottles locally and finally decided to invest in a larger size as I was buying so many small ones. I read many reviews and decided to give this one a try. Boy was I surprised! This brand definitely did not disappoint. I made the mistake of tasting thinking it was deep red in color only. Most products are simply just Hot, no flavor, no taste no pizzaz, just blah. I was very happy to taste a very nice flavor, beautiful level of heat and a flavor chefs dream about. I hope you continue to keep original flavor and DO NOT change the formula just to cut cost. I WILL DEFINITELY be buying again and can't wait to use this flavor in my next soup. Thank you!

Surprising
Heading says it all. 4 stars because of the mismatch between the size of the flakes and holes that are present on the mouth. You can't get any flakes out of those holes as the size of the flakes are way bigger than the holes. I mostly open the other half and take as much as I need. ( A little inconvenience). A design flaw. The quality of the product is good though.

A lot of crushed red pepper for the money. Quality product.
Item arrived EARLY and undamaged. Side photo shows the level PRIOR to opening and the scale shows the item’s weight, 14.5oz total. I do not have an accurate weight of the container...preventing me from doing the math. I will update. Flavor is nice! “Mild to hot” if you will. Everyone’s preference is different, but I’m impressed. You won’t be upset with this purchase.

I don't need to remember to ask for extra pepper flakes everytime I pickup pizza
This is for when you just need to add a kick of spice in a stew, not for when you want the whole party sweating from heat. It's tasty, but just a little spicy, not even sriracha-level here. Which is what you want from your spices anyhow; not too overpowering, allows for great mixing, especially when trying out new things in pasta sauces and stews. Happy with the price and the product.

I took a chance and purchased this item. The quality of this product was top notch! It was fresh and tasted great. I used it both in cooking and as a topper for pasta. In both cases the taste was wonderful. I will be purchasing this product again.

These are just what we wanted however, the lid shaker is too small to shake the peppers out! Pretty bummed about that because we never have had that issue with other brands, so we never thought about it before. Luckily we still had our old container and could put some in there so we could shake them out!

What's not to like?
I bought this to see if I like it more than red pepper flakes. I don't. I'm not saying this is a bad product, but I thought it would have a flavor similar to red pepper flakes and it doesn't. That said, I am still excited to figure out other ways to cook with it!

Typical Red Pepper Flakes
Great tasting red pepper. Taste fresh. If you want a little kick to your food sprinkle a little to enhance flavor. Taste really good in the Soy flavor Ramen noodles. I actually bought this for my outdoor plants because the squirrels keep digging up my fresh planted flower seeds. So I sprinkle this on the soil wet & dry. I do see squirrels in my yard but they don’t come near my flower pots no more. This stuff really works and my plants are still growing.

The Red pepper was not as hot but good.
So very sorry, but we are using it for digging animals in our yard in Florida. I feel so bad. But better than chemicals. I hope.

Great as squirrel repellent!
I make home made salsa and this is my additive, I toast them on the grill and add them to my mix and blend. The perfect balance of heat and smoke. A great product for my recipe~

There are more than one uses to this
I have always bought dollar store cayenne until now. Now I taste, see and know the difference. The cheap crap is a dull brown color and tastes stale especially after using this. Bright red and fresh, I will definitely buy again
