Severe chamical smell. - I updated my original review - read below
I love everything kitchenaide never disappointed! I'm doing a little update. I've had this coffee maker a few months now and I have Not experienced what others have. After cleaning it I did not get that plastic taste and the coffee pot itself isn't hard to clean with the rim piece, mine is still running great and doing its job! Kitchen aide does pretty well when it comes to their appliances I have to say. Not sure why others have issues. Hope this helps. And BTW I'm an all day coffee drinker.

    Fits right in
I have purchased many coffee makers during my 60+ years and this is the best I’ve ever owned. It is reasonably priced, attractively designed and works perfectly. My only reason for not giving it five stars (wish I could of given it a 4.9) is my fear of the water container breaking if dropped. It is constructed of a cheaper polycarbonate plastic that would certainly crack upon impact. Otherwise it’s a fine machine.

    Cute Coffee
It is an elegant looking unit that makes good coffee. Easy to use and clean. What else should you expect from $70 only? : )

There was space to make the buttons bigger.
This makes exceptionally good coffee and keeps it warm for two hours without burning. Quality, fit and finish are first-rate which is what I expect from Kitchenaid. (I have had a stand mixer forever). The removable clear-plastic tank has a large opening making it easier to fill. Moreover, rather than a bubble indicator which always, eventually, becomes unreadable you can see exactly what you are doing. Being able to actually clean the tank is a huge advantage. You will need to do that prior to first use as it has a strong plastic odor. The carafe has a unique design. It pours with no drips whatsoever. However, this has an enormous footprint. A Cuisinart coffee maker is about 7.5 inches deep. This thing is 14 inches deep and it seems wider as well. Another issue is the carafe lid. It does not detach from the carafe and opens only to perpendicular with the carafe. This makes for awkward loading in the dishwasher and it takes up nearly twice as much room on the rack as would be the case if the lid could be detached. Unlike a Cuisinart this has no filtering mechanism. I'm fine with that because I use (BWT) filtered water. BOTTOM LINE: For me the removable tank and coffee quality far outweigh the oversized footprint and the problem getting the carafe into the dishwasher. (YMMV) Just a bit of trivia: The Exorcist is now almost 50 years old. On the counter in the mother's kitchen is a Kitchenaid stand mixer which looks exactly like what the company manufactures today.

Severe chamical smell. - I updated my original review - read below
This is such a great coffee maker. I have had a standard coffee maker for years and the fact it keeps the water reservoir separate from the coffee filter/grounds keeps them dry. Other coffee makers had it combined in the same unit and if I prepared it the night before it had that taste as if the coffee had been absorbing moisture (like humid environments) throughout the night and I can taste it the next morning. The carafe had the plastic rim that I was not use to but it totally made sense when pouring the coffee, there was no awkward overflow or dripping down the side of the glass. Another purchaser complained that it was not easy to wash because it was hard to get her hand in underneath, but I have large hands and it was no problem. I guess some people just look for something to complain about. No complaints here :) The smell is another thing that I noticed along with others. Running fresh water three times did not help but I washed it a few times with soap and water and it went away. This product had to be manufactured at some point and may have that "new smell" like everything else does. Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

    Absolutely wonderful Product
Being a drinker of a lot of coffee, I have searched for the perfect machine for decades. I just about thought that my Krups machine was going to be the best for my needs; but the Kitchen Aid looked interesting. So I bought one at Wal Mart about a year ago. It has turned out to be the best. I bought this machine again because I know that when the old one eventually fails, which happens to all machines, I want to still have it available. So it will sit in my storage area for ten years or so. I could write a book about what makes for a good coffee machine; but there is no sense in attempting a summary here. I was concerned that the removable water container might be a leak problem waiting to happen. It is well made. The electronics are good. The only thing that I would improve is to have a more solid switch; but it does work well. I prefer less bells and whistles and more functionality. I also don't want my coffee machine to be smarter than me or to spy on me. The coating on the heat plate is still intact. That has usually not been the case with other machines I have tried. I think that Kitchen Aid has taken a greater interest in quality of design and materials in the last few years. I have one of their large mixers and a few other items. I must mention that the taste of the coffee is very good. That speaks to the plumbing and the temperature characteristics of the machine, and maybe to the drip system. I like that the filter holder is locked into place easily. This prevents overflow accidents. Also, when I forgot to put the filter holder in place a few times and just put the filter in the housing absentmindedly, the coffee still came out perfect with no grounds all over the place.

    Love the removable water reservoir
Who knew you could be so pleased about a coffee pot not spilling when you pour but our previous 2 in 1 (coffee pot & K cup maker) died and we had an old Mr. Coffee to hold us over until we selected a new maker. I selected this KitchenAid because I love having a water reservoir I can clean and fill either by removing to fill or pouring the water in. I've only been using a just over a week and really like this coffee maker. So far zero grounds end up in pot (I guess that's a great feature of the spiral showerhead), zero spills, added water to reservoir both way, makes a 12 cup pot in 10 minutes. On the cleaning of the pot, I was concerned based on another review that the inside has a lip that is a challenge to clean -- I didn't find this a problem, the glass seems curved and I felt confident in the cleaning. So the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the color of the plastic on the pot, it's black, not charcoal grey so to me, it looks like I bought a replacement pot. I would have given 5 stars if the plastic matched. The main photo shown for the product looks like they match. Now that I have mine, the first thing I did was come back to the product page to see if I actually got a returned product or something since they didn't match -- you need to look at reviewers pictures as they better show that the plastic on the pot is very different. So I'm loving the machine itself, I just don't love that the pot doesn't exactly match.

The Best Coffee Maker I Have Found
Designed for people who drink coffee and use their coffee maker. The carafe is visible from 3 sides, not tucked in like some other highly rated makers. The water reservoir can be filled by the carafe or by lifting up and away to be carried to the water source. Very convenient and much easier to view and clean than built in water reservoirs. The V shaped basket locks in place, so if one lifts on the carafe it will not pop up the basket like other highly rated coffee makers. This was a problem on my last coffee maker, the V shaped basket would pop up a few millimeters, and because of this would leak down the sides onto the top of the carafe then spill over onto the burner and tabletop. Not this coffee maker! Very impressed so far.

    Pour without spilling
Don’t let the “chemical smell” reviews ward you off. Clean the water resivior before use and it won’t have a smell. It’s brand new plastic.. of course it smells funny. Makes great coffee, sleek, and little to no steam. Metal basket that’s reusable, brews somewhat fast. My only complaint is it doesn’t have a brew size selection. I’d love to make single cups of Togo coffee instead of a full pot every time. I circumvent this by just adding 4 cups of water to the resivior every morning. Works well.

Year Year Review: Still like everything about this pot, highly recommend. .. Two Month review, what we’ve learned. This is an above average coffee maker. We have owned everything from Mr. Coffee to Cuisinart. Removable water reservoir – Nice lift handle to remove and replace. Lid is an exact fit, tilt it up just a bit and it will sit right in place. Easy to clean. Basket – Use the lift ring to put the basket back in place, it will line up perfect and drop in place, it does not like the get close and release method. Pot – No plastic taste others reported, but we did run the clean cycle before first use, read the manual for cleaning instructions, cleaning proportion was a surprise vs. other brewers. Daily Cleaning – No issues for us, let the pot cool down, one drop of dawn, sprayer used to mix up dawn/water then a wash rag around and around, pot is as clean as the day purchased. Cleaning – an icon will lite up after 100 brews to clean the appliance, use the manual. We really like this feature. In the past we did our best to remember to clean the brewer once a month…most of the time we remembered. :-) Alarm – When the bottom is pressed to set the alarm to brew based on the alarm time, it will display the alarm clock time for about ten seconds, this allows you to review the am/pm (who hasn’t gotten that wrong after resetting time after a power outage). The alarm is in edit mode so making adjustments is easy pease. Pot – Oversized spout is GREAT helps prevent the drool/drips on the counter when the pot is full. Burner – It is oversized but not greatly just enough to allow for expansion and contraction, brewer this is replacing was an exact fit after six months of use, the pot no longer sits flat on the burner, pot will not stay warm. Reheat – if you drink coffee most or all of the day, the two-hour keep warm timer with auto shut off that most brewers have can be a pain. This brewer shows a count down, nice, very nice feature. Important note!! This brewer is engineered to monitor for no water in the heating “pipes” and it will auto shut off to prevent damage to the heater/burner etc. At first this was a pain, a real turn off, thought about returning the product. Then I got to thinking, what was the problem with previous brewers, they start leaking or the warmer burns out….Hmm…To avoid the auto shut off mentioned above…before turning the warmer back on because you still have half a pot to drink, add about a finger of water (1/2” ??) to the water reservoir. This is not enough to change the taste of the current pot but its enough to fill the “pipes” and the timer will set for another two hours. Beep – Yes it beeps when it is ready and when the warming timer runs out and it turns off. Nope don’t think there is a way to disable it. If there is absolutely no noise in the house and doors/windows are closed, I can hear it in the next room, but not two rooms away where my home office is. In fact, it is quieter than others we have owned. I like hearing the beep ten minutes before its time to get, I wake with a smile on my face knowing the coffee is ready.

No complaints. No steam. Great coffee.
Out of the box, easy peasy. 3rd day making coffee all good. LIKES: First, love the separate, clear water tank, i see no damn leaks in our future & so easy and fail safe to fill, I bought this for the hope it would be so & it is. 5 stars No leak carafe-a big deal and even the hubby, an inpatient pourer, has no dribbles. 5 stars CONCERNS: I don't have any yet, but; The hubby says this maker does not keep the coffee as hot, but, he nurses a cup for a 1/2 Hr I will be checking back down the road. So far I'm glad i dumped another the 4th Cuisinart maker in less than 18 years, the most recent was the 14C, I jumped on that as soon as it came out, but it was ever leakier and noisy as the previous one , plus it actually died in under 3 years, just another damn chunk of plastic for the landfill. I'll always have their food processor, but, we're done with their lousy coffee makers.

KitchenAid KCM1208OB Drip Coffee Maker, 12 Cup
I’ve had for approximately 1 week. My main reason for purchasing this particular coffee machine is that the water reservoir is separate from the rest of the machine. This allows the machine to dry quicker and won’t get grody and worn down over time from the constant moisture. Secondly, aesthetically this machine is amazing looking. It is super sleek and looks expensive. It brews a delicious pot of coffee. I’ve been using the reusable filter that comes with the pot and it’s been great. I also love that it has a “countdown” timer of when the hot plate automatically turns off. I’m super happy with my purchase! ***Update*** It’s been close to 3 months and I still love it. It’s so well made I can see this lasting for a long time. Very easy to clean and I typically do a vinegar cycle once a month to avoid buildup. Personally I would recommend anyone use filtered water if you can when brewing coffee because it keeps the machine from eroding (tap water can break down the pieces quicker).

    So far quite pleased
Bought this for the girlfriend to match her KitchenAid mixer and she absolutely loved it. Easy to use and looks great, didn't feel cheap and made good coffee. I'm stupid picky when it comes to coffee makers (and basically anything) and when thru 8 coffee makers (including a $300 Kerug - junk) and finally settled on a Mr. Coffee machine with the thermal carafe. Loved it and had it for years, until the girlfriend would constantly overflow the pot because she couldn't tell there was still coffee in the pot from the morning before (Can't see thru the pot). Replaced that with the KitchenAid and loved it off right away. 6 months in, it stopped brewing coffee, but will be returning it and giving it another try since I've loved it this far and finding a good coffee maker is harder than finding a good women. Also, I didnt realise this takes the cone coffee filters which are twice the price, but it comes with the reusable basket if you're spending the extra money for the filters

I've used Bunn coffee pots for years, but the last one I had was very disappointing and I wanted a coffee pot with a removable water fill. This Kitchen Aide is probably the best coffee pot I've ever had - including the Bunn. Great purchase and the coffee is great.

    Fits right in
Love, love, love this coffeemaker! The main reason fir purchasing it was the ease of adding water to it, and the ability to clean out the water reservoir. Filling our old pot meant putting water in the pot, adding just a bit because it doesn’t measure accurately, turning the unit sideways to see the tiny markings on the reservoir, and placing a dishtowel next to the unit to catch the inevitable water that didn’t quite make it into the reservoir. I don’t see well, so a black coffeemaker with a narrow, dark, poorly marked window became an instrument of frustration for me. And if the coffee basket (also black with some tiny black hieroglyphics) was not placed exactly right, there was more trouble: grounds in the coffee, basket overflows. My time is worth more than that! So finding a coffeemaker with a clear, removable reservoir was a Eureka moment for me. I can actually SEE how much water is going in the reservoir! The only thing this machine lacks is a water filter, but we use filtered water, so there is no need. This coffeemaker is elegant in its simplicity, easy to use, can go sideways or lengthwise on the counter, AND it makes great coffee.

Very nice coffee maker. We had previously been using a Mr. Coffee coffee maker for years and after the pot broke we upgraded to this. The water tank is great, much less spilling on the counter. I like the pour from the pot. It is a cone shaped filter so we will need to get a different type of filter from the standard but overall it is a really great quality item.

    Worth the money
Nice coffee maker. Has a quality look to it, especially the matte gray. While it is plastic it has that “suede” look to it. Doesn’t show fingerprints easily and doesn’t look cheap. The only difference between this model and the 99$ one is the stainless outer basket cover and a second timer, if those don’t matter to you save money and get the other one. The removable reservoir looks to be acrylic, while nice looking, it looks easy to break if dropped on floor or stone counter. The whole unit is rather large and I can see why it’s built to face front or sideways. I think they could have done better trimming it down but I guess it goes with the kitchen-aid rounded aesthetic most of their small appliances have. Love the pot, it doesn’t leak when pouring like my last pot, and it’s large. Does have a stainless band at the bottom that blocks the view of how much coffee is left, that may bother some. The unit makes good tasting coffee. Have not used the gold filter that came with it so can’t speak to that. A bit longer brew time especially on bold setting but not crazy as some reviewers suggest. 12 cups takes about 10-12 minutes on regular strength. I like that you can vary the amount of time the burner stays on 0-4 hours. The ability to turn it off entirely is what I like. Make a lot of iced coffee and don’t need the extra heat if I forget to take it off the burner right away. Has pretty much every feature you would expect in a coffee maker at this price. No Alexa capability but what would you really need it for anyway? Until she can actually put the coffee and water in I’ll pass.
