What is Shopify?

Shopify is a monthly subscription-based all-in-one online selling website, so how does it work? You will build and grow an online shop to advertise, sell, and distribute your goods to consumers.

Why Shopify isn’t the best choice for the eCommerce business?

When it comes to Shopify, there are a few things to bear in mind if you're getting ready to dip your toes into the e-commerce market waters. Six reasons why Shopify should not be your first preference for your online store are listed below.

1. Pricing

Shopify's plans seem to be inexpensive at first sight, but if you dig further, you'll discover that launching your eCommerce venture with Shopify can be very expensive.

To begin, regardless of which package you choose, you will incur additional processing fees if you use a payment service other than Shopify Payments.

Credit card payment fees are still charged on all Shopify plans, but it is worth noting that the fees can decrease marginally if you want a more costly package.

Finally, if you wish to add additional features, such as a loyalty scheme or advanced order monitoring, you would need to pay extra by ordering and downloading an app from Shopify's store.

2. Expensive Themes

There is no doubt that the design of your store is significant. Shopify should not fall short in this regard, since it has a variety of visually appealing themes. However, there are a few drawbacks to Shopify themes.

The first disadvantage to Shopify themes is that the official theme Store only has limited themes. This means that your store could be using the same style as your rivals, and your customers will be unable to say the difference. You will have a more difficult time establishing market recognition in the long term.

Another disadvantage of Shopify themes is that they can be very costly, in comparison to WordPress themes, which usually cost about $80. Although there are several free themes available in the marketplace, they do not have as many features or upgrade opportunities as premium themes.

3. Customization Options

Shopify makes it easy to import the store's logo and customize the colors and fonts. However, if you need further customization, you would need to employ a Shopify designer or learn how to code yourself.

To put it another way, Shopify's customization choices are very restricted. As a result, if you want full flexibility over the design of your store, such as the option to use custom fonts and control the layout of your product pages, Shopify is not the best option for you.

4. Vendor Lock-In

One of the primary reasons that Shopify is no longer the perfect option for starting an e-Commerce company is that it is a hosted website. A hosted platform eliminates the need to locate a hosting provider, install applications, or think about an SSL certificate for your shop.

Although this is convenient because all of the technical aspects are handled for you, it also carries the risk of losing the store if Shopify wishes to close its doors. Migrating the shop to a separate site is another popular issue with hosted sites. It's not as easy as it

sounds because what you get is a CSV of your stuff. Anything else, including the store's design, blog entries, store rules, and other website sections, will have to be recreated from scratch.

5. Steeper Learning Curve

Finally, there is a learning curve for Shopify and they use a variety of words that are not industry standard. They use the word sets, for example, to describe product groups. Although this is not a big deterrent, it is something to consider.

Similarly, when setting up your shop, you can always find yourself flipping between the front-end and back-end. This is because different shop options, such as payment gateways and policies, are placed in the backend, while theme customization options are found on the site's front-end app.

Alternatives to Shopify - Much Preferred Selling Sites in 2021

Shopify allows the creation of an online store where people can purchase and sell goods from all over the world. Since there was no other choice, a group of major sellers had already affiliated with Shopify within a short time after its introduction. The importance of Shopify's relationship with major sellers is the primary reason for its dramatic success over other marketplaces. This group of vendors is said to account for more than 70% of all Shopify sales.

According to a new marketplace report, over 7 marketplaces have arisen as competitors to Shopify, tempting vendors with lower fees and superior customer service, as well as multi-channel retailing solutions.

Is it better to sell on Shopify or not? The query that has been troubling retailing minds for years has finally been addressed by the zone's combatants. The retailing behemoth has formerly dominated the e-marketplace, but that domination is steadily eroding owing to its strict seller rules, which are compounded by organizational inflexibility and unwelcome pressures on sellers. Many Shopify aficionados are now turning away from the online auction platform in search of shopping bliss elsewhere.

Why are eCommerce owners looking for a Shopify alternative?

For many vendors who have used Shopify for years, their love affair with the website is over. The reasons are straightforward: - Prices on the website are being pushed down - High-volume suppliers in countries like China are selling their goods directly on Shopify. Wholesalers, from which eCommerce shops get their stocks, are becoming rivals in the same market. As a result, competing on pricing when on the same website as them is simply impractical.

  • Lack of brand appeal - Building a good "brand" on Shopify is incredibly challenging. Listings are difficult to configure, and having a "market" feel for your store is difficult. Particularly when Shopify uses your page to promote other people's listings. A shopper is unlikely to have come across your item unless they are searching for your name. It's much more likely that the shopper will forget about your brand until they've purchased the products.
  • Lower commission Rates - Any online marketplace charges a small fee for services such as post-sales commission, product listing fees, shipping and distribution fees, payment portal fees, platform management fees, membership fees, and warehousing. When selling on Shopify, sales-based commission prices may vary from 12% to 15%, and monthly costs for such facilities can exhaust vendor accounts fast, not to mention dishonest secret charges that can catch sellers off guard, particularly if they don't have enough turnover.

TrueGether, for example, charges only 2% post-sale commission while providing free limitless product listings on their online marketplaces. Such facilities would undoubtedly favor sellers, as they would be able to affordably showcase their product(s) to a wider customer base.
  • Improved Customer Service - Sellers want a more accessible platform and better selling service. The Shopify website has struggled to include any of these sale necessities. Alternatives to Shopify have now recognized this opportunity and ensured that the vendor receives full assistance, either by phone or text, seven days a week at no extra expense.
  • The flexibility of operation - The Shopify GUI is managed by Shopify managers from a central location, giving sellers less influence on their accounts and activities. The Shopify management is in charge of listing a product, pricing, distribution strategies, drop delivery, ratings, payment gateways, troubleshooting, negative feedback effects, customer touch, warehousing, quality control, and many other facets of selling online. To sustain market instability, it is important to establish a positive relationship with Shopify officials and also to make some concessions to their unreasonable terms and conditions.
  • Improved Process Management - Sellers benefit from greater technical and functional control available on sites other than Shopify. They can put up as many or as few items as they want and still benefit. And where there are discrepancies in revenue turnover during off-seasons, alternative sites do not levy a hefty penalty for failing to maintain a consistent cash balance, as Shopify does.

Negative consumer input has no bearing on the seller's account or on their ability to sell on other websites, and refunds, direct customer contact/support, coupons, shipment and distribution times, discounts, and other issues can all be managed by sellers with clear process clarity.
  • Fraudulent Customers - According to a new survey, buyers are more likely to be interested in fraud than sellers. Using illegal PayPal accounts to make payments, demanding a refund without returning the bought item, posting false reviews, and many other fraud behaviors are common among Shopify customers. The Shopify customer service staff is mostly concerned with defending their customers, so sellers do not get any assistance.
  • Purchaser Refunds - For vendors, returns after purchase are a huge pain when they result in a double loss. The money from the sale is lost, as is the expense of packing and delivering the product.

Which Sellers on Shopify are Switching to its Alternatives?

On Shopify, there are several types of vendors, each with their reasons for moving from Shopify to other related sites.

The first seller segment consists of those who are dissatisfied with Shopify's new fee system and refuse to pay increased seller fees because it limits their benefit percentage.

According to them, Shopify does not want to lose customers, but rather sellers. The third group of sellers includes those who have learned about fraud cases that began as a result of Shopify's support team's error.

Last but not least, some sellers are dissatisfied with Shopify's customer service because they say that all of their seller-related characteristics are automatically changed without their consent.

How should you Choose a Perfect Alternative to Shopify to Sell Online?

With the aforementioned options in mind, Shopify, which is a staple trading site today, will turn the tables on itself faster, regardless of the kind of vendor, product ranges, or sales volume online. Any online seller would tell you that experimenting on multiple channels is the best way to gain an advantage in today's online sale environment, particularly if you want a greater sense of independence and organizational versatility.

The following are few tips about how to choose the right solution for your needs:

  • Choose a website that provides a categorized listing of goods based on local demand, taking into account the target audience and business countries.
  • Even if the portal charges a modest sales commission/service fee, make sure that listing the items is free (or at least at a low cost). TrueGether is a Shopify option that allows you to sell an infinite range of items for free.
  • Direct negotiations with the seller and the customer, without the use of a middleman, are essential for open processes and quick responses between the parties concerned.
  • The platform should offer more attention to small-volume sellers rather than just top-rated sellers.
  • Sellers should be able to monitor their billing, shipment, and distribution systems.
  • Check to see if they provide appropriate commodity shipping assistance.

Best alternative to shopify!

On sites like Shopify, it was a bit difficult to sell due to their expensive prices. At first, it looked very feasible and a nominal price, later, after going deep into it, I found it is charging hectic. I came through this very apt site called TrueGether, which has so many useful attributes and the profit earned here is worth it. It charged me nothing and no commission as well on my profits. I am highly impressed with its user-friendly interface, it is very easy to use!

Adding items and selling here is very profitable and much convenient!

The option for free listing of items is really very profitable for we sellers. Also, the fact that there won’t be any charge deduction after selling the product and receiving the whole profit is the best option I can see as compared to other sites like Shopify. I am amazed by their customer service as well. I am very satisfied using this marketplace and it has everything which a seller desires to have. Very impressed with TrueGether!

No Hidden Cost!!

Bearing with new associated costs or getting your credit card payment fees dipped with a more costly package makes Shopify a less attractive source of having your sales on it. To download an app from the Shopify store or paying for an additional processing fee if you use an alternate payment system other than Shopify what you have to pay a little more and get started whereas TrueGether has no such hidden or additional costs associated with you selling over it.

Byon 13:20 June 20 2021
