Physician with IBS-D here. My experience with this product has been very good. The next day after taking it for the first time I had my first normal BM in many, many months. I've found Heather's Tummy Tamers to work well also but these seem to have a better enteric coating on them. If taken on an empty stomach and with not too much water, I get no minty reflux at all. The price is more than Heather's, but I'll pay more to avoid the reflux. For those wondering about it, the reflux is because peppermint oil is a smooth muscle relaxant. That's how it works in the gut -- the gut wall is smooth muscle, and in IBS it is contracting too much or too forcefully or not in a patterned way. However, the gastroesophageal sphincter is also smooth muscle, and that is what prevents reflux. Relax it with peppermint and you get reflux. Enteric coatings work by not dissolving in an acidic environment -- like your stomach. However, if you dilute your stomach acid with food or beverage while the peppermint capsule is in there, then the coating will dissolve and you will get the reflux. Hence, take your enteric coated peppermint, whether this product or heather's, 30 minutes to an hour before eating, using enough water be sure you got it down and no more. The "number needed to treat" for peppermint oil for IBS is very low -- around 2.5. That means for every 5 people treated with peppermint oil, 2 will experience benefit. That may sound like a not-so-good number, but actually in pharmacology that is a very good NNT. For comparison, the NNT for prescription antispasmodics like Bentyl and Levsin is in the 3-7 range, which is also quite good, but compare those numbers to something like Xifaxan which has an NNT of 11 and costs $900-1,800 per month and you begin to appreciate that peppermint oil is winner. And with a low cost and low side effect profile, it's almost impossible to beat from a cost/side effect/NNT combined perspective. Give peppermint oil a try. Try Heather's first if you don't have any problems with reflux as Heather's is much cheaper. IBS is multifactorial. If peppermint oil doesn't help you, then gut hypermotility or dismotility is not your problem and you will need to try something else -- FODMAP diet, prebiotics, probiotics, and EXERCISE (that one is for everyone no matter what, of course). If it helps a little, you will need something else in addition to it. And for some lucky folks, this is all you will need.

For IBS-D, not really for IBS-C
I have suffered since the 80's with IBS—before doctors (mine, anyway) ever had a name for it. I was always told I had a Type-A personality and that it was just stress. I've tried many things. Nothing helped. Finally, a couple of years ago, my gastroenterologist recommended IBGard. I have had NO problems since. I repeat NO problems since.

My husband has stomach issues. I'm not really sure if its IBS, he's been to several doctors and they're all very vague with diagnoses. He did a few allergy tests, a colonoscopy, stool tests, etc. and nothing really came out of it, they all just end up giving him a generic list of foods that may cause allergies. They've all recommended pro-biotics before and that helped very little. All we know is, very rich foods, red meats, and sometimes just randomly his stomach will hurt and he will need to rush to the bathroom. This makes eating out really uncomfortable when you're always looking for a toilet right after a meal, especially when we're trying new restaurants. But this stuff actually works, I forgot where I had heard of this product from but I'm so glad I did. I always bring a few pills with me and he'll take one if he thinks something we're eating outside is gonna give him trouble. He does try his best to stay away from triggers, but there is always that random occurrence once in awhile. Steaks are always a trigger food so he doesn't eat it a lot, but sometimes he likes to indulge and he will take this pill and be fine afterwards. I know when I get stomach trouble its the worst feeling in the world so I'm so glad he now has something that helps. Definitely worth a shot if you having ongoing stomach issues.

I give this my highest recommendation!
FINALLY! A product that works! I'd been walking around looking like I was 7 months pregnant. Now tummy flat as a board. I'd spend my last dollar on these over food!

Worth a shot if you have stomach issues.
I have suffered intermittently from severe IBS for over 20 years. This is the first non-prescription medicine that made any difference. After using this product daily for 6 weeks I have had only 2 episodes of IBS and both were after indulging in too many adult beverages so I’m not sure they count. I have SIGNIFICANTLY less cramping, stomach pain and embarrassing gas. Oddly, the hand cramps I’ve had for over a year have disappeared completely. I can poop like a normal human. It is a function not an event. I do sometimes get a slight cool burning sensation after taking it and very strong mint taste. I’ve found taking it with a big drink rather than a sip of water will take care of that. UPDATE 2/2019 Amazed at how well this works. I tried several cheaper alternatives that appeared equivalent. Nope. I take one every day and my IBS has morphed into LTPPAD. (Little Painless Poops All Day)

I've had bouts of IBS on and off for the past 10+ years and have always had a rather sensitive digestive system but never experienced the severity of symptoms I had after a couple of bouts of either food poisoning or stomach bug. My GI called it post infectious IBS. I write in detail hoping to help others: severe diarraeah many many times per day, horrific intestinal cramping, and passage of mucous to the point of being incapacitated every morning for weeks. I tried a very bland diet which didn't help much. I visited my GI twice over the 3 months that I experienced this and it wasn't until she gave me samples of IBGard that I began to have relief. I was also taking a double dose of Align probiotic daily - the combination of that with IBGard (2 pills) after every meal finally gave me relief and bulked up my BMs. It took a few days to fully kick in but I did have some relief within 24 hours - my intestines felt calm and the cramping was reduced. It took a few more days after that for the cramping to fully dissipate. It's now six weeks or so later and I'm taking one Align a day (the recommended dose) and only one IBGard with each meal. I'm eating almost everything again and drinking coffee with no problems. I plan to wean myself off IBGard soon and just use as needed. I realize it's expensive but nothing else worked. I've never written a review for anything before so I'm hoping this can help someone else who is suffering from digestive issues because you know how awful it is to be afraid to live your life and have to calculate where every bathroom is all the time. Good luck. IBGard + Align was my magical combination.

VERY EFFECTIVE for IBS symptoms
I have IBS & Crohn's disease: treatments for the two often seem conflicting ( eat fiber, avoid fiber, etc). My GI gave me samples after I told him my symptoms were a little better while taking a peppermint oil supplement. IBgard is far more effective than the other peppermint oil supplement I had tried. Not only are my pain, bloating & gas much reduced, but an added bonus is that my gas & poop now smell like candy canes! I feel like an elf. Loving this stuff!

My sh!t don't stink!
WOW WOW WOW, that's basically the quintessence of this product!!! I have struggled for almost 30 years with IBS, starting when I was a child. . . It got worse and worse until I even developed diarrhea when my phone was ringing or when my husband said something, what I "didn't like". I couldn't eat out anymore, because I was spending more time in the bathroom than at the table - AND THEN (!!!) I found this product! After trying EVERYTHING (!!!) else, (Healther's tummy products, Holigos, which was kind of "okay"), I gave IBgard a chance, after reading the comments underneath the product. . . Well, for me (!) it took 12 hours to feel a difference, now after about 3 months, I maybe had 2 times diarrhea, but really only because I ate wrong. Without IBgard, a "one time diarrhea" triggered diarrhea for WEEKS! The phone rings, I don't get diarrhea anymore, my husband says something I don't like, I don't get it anymore, the dogs bark suddenly and I AM FINE! I have AFTER YEARS (!!) absolutely NORMAL bowel movements, my cramps are gone! Also, I feel way less stressed in general, because I don't have to worry about my diarrhea anymore! I FINALLY absorb my supplements and nutritions - I am a completely different person! When I woke up in the morning, I had diarrhea IMMEDIATELY, because I immediately felt "stressed". . . GONE! I get up now, do my morning routine, have my tea and then 2 hours later I have a normal bowel movement! This is something I am GRATEFUL for from my heart! I haven't had a normal life in years and now I feel healthy, relaxed and happy! You should really really give it a try! I LOVE this product and the scientists who came up with this! God bless them!

Saved my life!
I've been dealing with IBS for about six years now. The past month and half I've been dealing with the worst case, full spectrum IBS. Been taking probiotics, fiber and prescription medicine from a gastroenterologist and it was just getting worse. So I came across this product and within a day I had relieve. This is day four and all is good. I take one pill in the morning. I'm annoyed that my Gastroenterologist never suggested this. Last time I was given a sample of probiotics that would cost between $200 to $300 a month! So yes, I highly recommend this product and as mentioned this is when I'm coming off the worst case of IBS.I

Since 2010 I have suffered with IBD. I could not leave the house. I was sick all the time and lived in the bathroom. Literally! My gastro doctor handed me a few free samples of these at my last appointment. Oh. My. Gosh. I take two when I get up and 2 more around lunch. It's incredible. I'm completely straightened out by 1-2pm and can actually do things outside the house now! For me this is a really big deal! I have a handful of friends who also suffer from IBS and IBD and I made them try this. Drove them nuts until they did. Now they are in love. lol All those drugs. all those prescriptions to try to get this under control and THIS...... MINT....... was the answer. How about that.

For IBS-D, not really for IBS-C
I have post infection IBS from a C. Diff infection last year. I had no idea WHAT to do, just so that I could eat a little bit. I found this and started taking it religiously. I usually just take 1 30 mins before a meal, but if I'm feeling particularly bad, I do take 2. They make a huge difference. It's a 10 in pain without this, and a 3 with it. I'm going to take years to heal, but at least this takes the edge off and helps tremendously. Sometimes I take it when I'm not feeling well and I don't plan on eating. Do give it a few weeks to really start working, and be sure to drink just enough fluids when you take it to wash it down. Drinking a cup of peppermint tea after your meal, or taking 1 of these about 20 minutes after eating can also really help if you're really suffering, or if you've eaten something you maybe shouldn't have. I love this product and I'm so happy it exists. I tried others and they didn't work.

These are life-changers!
Been using this for 3 days, first day I took 2 capsules and it stopped me up, a welcome change honestly. I did experience some nasty heartburn, thus I cut back on the dosage. Second day and today I've taken one capsule in the morning before breakfast. Its made my bowel movements more 'complete' and consistent and less urgent. I don't know if I have IBS as I have never been diagnosed, but this product seems to live up to its name. I have had irregular movements for months now, and this has made a big difference thus far. Nothing else has made this big of a difference, I tried Kombucha, cleanses, probiotics, and adding tons of fiber with no changes. I put it through its paces today with a crap load (thats a pun) of coffee and then taco bell, both of which I know for fact trigger my gut to become agitated (hershey squirts), and my movement today was a little urgent but was FAR easier to feel the train entering the tunnel, giving ample time to locate a glorious porcelain thrown at work. Not a no-wiper, but damn was it pleasant compared to what Im used to. I will update if anything changes, but thus far I'm happy with the purchase.

This is my lifeline
I believe this is helpful for some types of IBS. I have IBS-C, and occasionally go for days without a satisfying BM; after a time I have symptoms of inflammation so intense I can feel the heat in my colon, feels like the Sahara desert, dead, hot as an oven, and dry. This cools things down, I feel the difference the same day, and can help you achieve a normal BM. I have found the relief may not persist, it’s not a miracle cure, but a product to keep around and use on an as-needed basis. One negative point - if you have GERD or dyspepsia peppermint can be an irritant, which is why I go for the enteric coated products. I occasionally get reflux after I’ve taken this product, but can’t definitively attribute the symptoms to this alone; I love coffee, buffalo wings, chocolate, and beer, all potential culprits. Sometimes after taking these, however, I can feel it in the back of my throat, suggesting that the enteric coating is not 100% effective; maybe a function of how acidic my stomach was at the time. It can be bad enough that I can no longer swallow food in the middle of a meal, and I have to get up and walk it off until the alarming pain goes away. So I took away one star, it has its pros and cons. Update: after further use, and comparing to the popular Solaray product, I need to upgrade my experience with IBGard, it really is the best, and the results have been more positive than anything I’ve tried for my bowel issues. I believe the design is perfect, and seems to actually release the peppermint oil where you need it most, for the most part, despite the occasional peppermint burp. The Solaray product is stronger, less likely to dissolve in your stomach, and has additional bowel-soothing oils, however after using both over time I believe the effects are better with IBGard, and with fewer adverse side effects. Some of the ingredients in the Solaray product do not agree with me, and may not agree with you, everyone is different. Quercetin, for example, can cause headaches, and since it appears in so many products that risk is often compounded; and chamomile may make you feel sedated. Both are good, but IBGard gets the 5 stars.

3 Days and so far so good!
It alleviates a tremendous amount of pain and cramping of my intestines, well worth the money! I only wish I had known about it sooner.

The best solution I’ve found for IBS-C after a long search
I have horrible IBS. There have been very few days without either vomiting or diarrhea in my life. After my most recent colonoscopy my gastroenterologist handed me a sample of IBgard. I must preface that I am extremely skeptical of anything not regulated by the FDA but when I started reading reviews, I couldn't believe how many people raved about it. But many also insisted you had to stay with it and it improves after a couple weeks of usage. So, again I'm skeptical, especially at over 50 cents a pill, 3-6 per day. I bought the 48 count and decided to give it an honest try. I noticed from the first day that it had a calming effect on my stomach that normally I would take something like Omerprazole for. More importantly, I had a normal bowel movement that day and did not vomit. I have just about finished the box and after being on it for a little while I can honestly say it's made a significant difference in my quality of life. I still have days with diarrhea or vomiting but they have been reduced by at least two thirds and that is amazing and unexpected. NOTHING had worked for me this well, prescription or otherwise. It's expensive but at the change it has made to my quality of life, I feel the expense is worth it.

Diverticulitis Sufferers Take Note
I’ve had IBS-D since I was about 11. I have tried countless prescriptions, OTC products, special diets, et al. I’m 53 now and after covid and subsequent stressors I have been in dire straits to the point of lying in bed curled up when not in the bathroom. I lost my health insurance while not working and was desperately looking for something to help. I didn’t even want to eat, but being diabetic I had to to keep my blood sugar level. I ran across this searching online. I did some serious research and decided it was worth a try, especially since it was returnable. Since I had never tried peppermint oil as a remedy I only took one to start. When I got up the next morning I had zero symptoms, and I’m not selling snake oil here. I have never been compensated for a review. I don’t even know how that works. And I hardly ever leave reviews. I have taken one a day for the last ten days and have had ‘normal’ bms every day since, save one day when I felt so good for over a week I tried some ice cream. That caused a pretty minor glitch, but I didn’t take a second capsule just to see what would happen. I was back on track once the ice cream made it through my system. I have only tasted peppermint oil once, and it didn’t burn and only lasted for a few seconds. Everyone is obviously different and I’m not a healthcare professional. I am someone who has searched for help with IBS most if my life. This product has been a true game-changer. If it stops working, or I need to take more to maintain results, or I experience any negative effects I will come back and update my review. Many people rely on them in their decision-making—myself included. I am stunned at the results I’ve had.

Honestly, I'm amazed in the difference.
I was highly skeptical of the claims made by the manufacturer of IBgard. I have tried seemingly countless over- the-counter remedies for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The difference, however, became readily apparent when I found that IBgard actually works! Amazing! Two tablets require 15 to 30 minutes to relieve cramps and urgency with 100% efficacy. I have had a more variable response for active diarrheal episodes. Effectiveness has a duration of 6-12 hours. I have experienced no discernible side effects other than a “minty” taste after swallowing the capsules. Carrying IBgard capsules in my pockets, luggage and automobiles provides both immediate and effective treatment for my IBS symptoms as well as peace of mind - a highly valued commodity for IBS patients. Although IBgard capsules are not cheap; their effectiveness for persons with IBS makes the cost more than acceptable. I highly recommend IBgard as an effective treatment for the symptoms of IBS.

A bit pricey but wow!
I have been struggling for months with undiagnosed GI issues. Every test possible has been done. Multiple prescription medications tried. My GI doctor suggested Ibgard. I was doubtful but desperate. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. I take 2 capsules 3 times a day before meals and by day 3 my stomach cramps and spasms have decreased dramatically. I am 2 weeks into treatment and I am starting to eat real food again. An interesting “side effect” is when i burp it tastes like mouth wash?? Not a bad thing, just funny. I feel minty fresh all time! If your suffering with IBS or similar symptoms for the price, it’s worth giving it a try!

Effective Treatment for IBS Symtoms
My 10 year old has been struggling with chronic, functional abdominal pain for a year and a half. He was always at a "1-2" level of pain, but often at a 6 with "spikes to an 8" as he put it. No IBS, no other symptoms, just pain. It just kept getting more frequent and more prolonged, to the point where it was most days, all day long. He hadn't made it to school in-person in over a month (online covid option actually saved him this year academically) and missed all but 4 baseball games this year. We did tracking charts, tried all the diets, had tests for all the different physical causes. He did biofeedback therapy, counseling (in case it was anxiety-driven)...all to no avail. Early on his GI specialist had us try peppermint oil pills but did not tell us about this particular type. The regular ones from the supplement aisle at the pharmacy did nothing, but many months later I found a research paper on these on my own and figured it wouldn't hurt to try them in the midst of all the counseling work. He takes two capsules first thing in the morning (they look big but are slippery and he does fine with them) and waits about 20-30 min before eating. Within days his incidence rate was drastically reduced, and within three weeks he was fine. No pain. At all. It has been almost a month now totally pain free. If only we had known about these a year earlier! I know they won't work for everyone, but they are certainly worth a shot if your child has functional abdominal pain. My son is now running around again and annoying his older sister like a proper 10 year old should! Yes, they are more expensive than the "regular" peppermint oil pills, but for us they are a bargain compared to what the alternatives were (more therapy, prescription anti-anxiety meds).
