Don’t be put off by the instructions. It’s very easy and tasty!
I have no idea why people were making a big deal out of the directions on the box. Yeah they were for large batches etc. no big deal! I’m over 40 and have had years of experience in cooking. I’ve made numerous batches of pancakes and many other breakfast foods and fine cooking. If people can’t figure out how to make this waffle mix by pouting the water in small increments and mixing it to the necessary consistency then please don’t try to make waffles! Just mix it where it is runny enough to pour. In the same consistency as pancake mix. Very easy! Though the company should make the instructions more easy for smaller batches. I don’t measure it, I just poured. We have made two batches and I would say that a family of 4 can get 4 batches out of this. My husband and I both ate two Waffles and my two boys under 7 years old each ate 3/4 of waffle we were stuffed!! We couldn’t move and went into waffle comas afterwards. The mix has a good flavor and it’s not overly sweet. I made peanut butter whipped cream and plain whipped cream to go with it and oh my gosh it was awesome!! Please don’t take my review as being rude, I just don’t understand the confusion. ITS EASY. Just slowly add water to the consistency so that it pours from your measuring cup. There is some room for play. Not runny like you would dobto make crepes but thick enough to slowly flow from the measuring bowl/cup. Don’t make it carder than it has to be! Enjoy!

Yes, this is a foodservice package and only includes instructions for half or the whole box. Quick instructions: Use a 1:1 ratio of mix and water. If using a home waffle maker, cook a minute or two longer. Detailed review: The box states 5lbs of mix and 80oz of water. When baking, I measure by weight, so I decided to use this method. 5lbs = 80 oz Water = 80 oz That is a 1:1 ratio by weight, it doesn't get much easier than that! Using my kitchen scale, I measured 130g of each and made 1 Belgian waffle in my ceramic, nonstick waffle maker. I also cooked the waffle 2 minutes longer. Commercial waffle makers get much hotter and retain heat better than my Presto model. Generally, my waffles stick and separate in the middle. They did not stick or separate this time! This time, I was left with a crisp exterior and soft interior. My waffle finally came out perfect! My only complaint with this mix is that it doesn't taste as good as the waffles you make at cheap hotel breakfasts.

About the BEST Waffle Mix I've used
My husband wanted a waffle maker for Christmas, and so I purchased him the Cuisinart one that flips over to cook evenly. Then I looked for waffle mix. This mix is awesome! All you have to add is cold water. Thank you, everyone, for your wonderful reviews (I read all of the reviews before buying something). In their reviews, people said to use COLD water, so we used water from the filtered refrigerator dispenser. The recipe on the box is a little overwhelming, but someone said to use 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons of mix, with 1-1/4 cups of cold water. For a dinner meal of sausage, applesauce, and waffles, for 4 people, we tripled that, and had 2 waffles left over to eat the next day warmed in the microwave. So, we used: 6 cups plus 6 TB mix, and 3-3/4 cups cold water. Then whisked with a whisk. There were a few small lumps left, but it was pretty smooth. It was OK to just scoop the mix out of the box, not leveling it or being too obsessive. It didn't seem to matter if the batter was a little thicker or thinner, the waffles came out tender and flavorful and delicious. The 3/4 cup measuring cup came with the Cuisinart waffle maker, so I scooped and poured the waffle batter with that. I started pouring the batter around the outside area of the waffle maker first, and then spiraled inward (instead of pouring it all down into the center), and then you immediately close the waffle maker and flip it over to cook. Also, the waffles cooked right after the mix was stirred up came out just as good as the ones cooked last, when the mix had been sitting and raising up a bit in the bowl. So, we ended up using almost half of this huge box of mix in just one meal. We are definitely getting more after we finish off this box! I have made yeast-raised waffle batter in the past, but this mix tastes just as good, but it's so easy and stress-free! The flavor is wonderful, not too sweet, just right. The next day, our son microwaved the two waffles that were left over for breakfast, at about 20-30 seconds on high. This waffle mix is a real winner. We served the waffles with choices of chunky applesauce, Nutella, or real maple syrup.

Correct measurements are needed!
We love Krusteaz products and this waffle mix is easier to prep than the consumer product. Yes, this is the "professional" size that they make for commercial use but there is no reason why anyone else cannot use it - it's delicious! For a small batch of two Belgian waffles use 1 1/3 cup of mix to 3/4 cup of COLD water. I got that ratio from Krusteaz themselves.

Perfect loaves in my bread machine
I have a bread machine (2# capacity) and this mix creates a perfect loaf of bread. If you use a bread machine, make sure you follow the instructions on the box which modifies the recipe slightly (less water, make sure all ingredients are room temp - add water first, then flour, then yeast making sure the yeast does not contact the water). I put mine on the basic preset with medium crust (3 hours total time start to finish). I followed another reviewer's advice about letting it sit in the pan a little while - so once it was done, I pulled the pan out of the machine, covered it with a cloth, and let it sit for about 45 minutes before I dumped the loaf out. Nice medium brown crust, very airy and moist inside (see pic). It has a hint of sourdough flavor (I prefer mine much tangier, but this is definitely a delicious bread nonetheless.) I keep it wrapped in cloth and then put it in a plastic bag but do not seal it. I also cut from the middle and make slices from the middle towards the ends. There are no preservatives, so don't expect it to keep fresh for more than a day or so. I am so glad it came in a 12-pack and will be ordering more.

"Recipe" calls for too much water( 1 1/4 cups)
I made monkey bread with this and it was amazing! See photo. I used a LOT of cinnamon and it tasted like Cinnabon. (Hawaiian Sweet Bread Mix)

Perfect loaves in my bread machine
Original purchase: 12 boxes, Dec 2016 and have 1 box left. I use exclusively in a machine, following instructions on the box with one modification: I add 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda to the flour. I found the taste to be too vinegary - took several attempts to get it just right for my taste. I've just learned to make one more modification: When the 3 hour time has ended, I allow the machine to go into the warming function and then shut off on its own. (I can almost lift the pan without potholders at that point.) I let it sit in the pan on the counter another half hour. The bread comes out more easily (including the paddles) and the crust is fantastic! The moisture level in the bread is reduced so it's a dryer, chewier loaf. It seems to make a small loaf and I'm considering using 2 mixes (2.5 lb machine). Not a novice baker, but a lazy one: While living in Alaska, we made starter and fresh bread (sea level). My sister-in-law gave me a very cheap little Magic Chef bread machine in 1997 which we used in Japan (sea level) and North Carolina mountains (about 2600 ft). When it died after 18 years, I purchased a West Bend.

Makes incredible monkey bread!!!
I make a lot of bread with my machine. I use Krusteaz Hawaiian, sour dough and country white. I doctor them up with herbs and spices to create variety and special combinations. With the Hawaiian I add cinnamon, walnuts and either raisins, cranberries or cherries depending on who the recipient is. They love them! The mixes are cheaper than store bought bread and who can resist fresh, warm scented bread. Makes the whole house smell like a Thomas Kincade painting. Bravo!

Bread Machine fixes for too sour and too wet, better crust.
I love the taste of fresh bread, and this tastes pretty good in particular. It rises well with a secret ingredient: seltzer water (replace regular water). Without it, even following the directions, it will be thick. Still, when you think about it, you’re paying over $3 a loaf that you prepare. Might be cheaper at the bakery. But you won’t get that hot, fresh taste out of the oven.

Excellent, consistent quality and taste
I’ve been buying this bread mix for quite a while for use in my bread machine. It’s the same price, with subscribe and save, as a loaf of bread from the store but so much fresher. I originally bought it based on ease of use and convenience, who doesn’t love fresh bread? The other day I found out it’s actually foolproof. I started a loaf in my bread machine and for some unknown reason the power went out on just the bread machine. I decided to plug it in to another socket and start over even though the bread dough was already mixed and gone through a rising cycle. It had actually risen to the top of the pan and I had no hope of getting a good loaf. I was more interested in testing the bread machine to make sure it wasn’t the problem. Turns out the bread dough was still good. Even with starting from the beginning it didn’t turn out doughy or tough. It actually produced an excellent loaf. I had no idea how long it sat but was pleasantly surprised that it worked out. I highly recommend this mix for ease of use, convenience and the fact that you can’t screw it up even when the bread machine inexplicably turns off mid cycle.

Very good with secret ingredient
Amazing taste for the Hawaiian Sweet flavor! The smell of the dough is amazing too, but don't eat it! I use the one-hour instructions and then lightly cook it to a light brown crust in an oven. The thick bread style is the kind of bread I like. I took it to a party and people loved it. It's very easy to prepare. The dough isn't too sticky. Watch out when cooking in small toaster ovens. You have to lower the temperature by 150 degrees or so depending on how inaccurate and small your toaster oven is and cook for a longer time than suggested. The bread can get easily burnt on the bottom.

Foolproof Bread
Sourdough bread mix is a "pantry staple" in my home. It is easy, a small loaf and I can eat the entire loaf out of the oven, just furnish the "real" butter & I do not have to do all the prep work, mix, knead, let rise, time it in oven. I can put the mix in my bread machine, walk away until I hear the finish chime on the bread machine. The only thing I wonder about is why I cannot locate it on my store shelves & why Krusteaz does not answer my inquiries as to why? I really hate to purchase it in bulk (12 boxes) but did so as I hate to go from store to store looking for it. Is this item becoming a relic like us old persons?

Amazing taste that's easy to prepare!
I used this mix in my Zojirushi bread machine and it came out perfect every time. I selected regular basic with light crust. The bread turned out moist and the crust is still crunchy. As expected, it is sweeter than regular bread because it’s “Hawaiian”. Overall, I am satisfied with this bread mix which is great to use in a bread machine.

Pantry staple for us "Seniors"!
I make this in my Hamilton Beach 2 Lb Digital Bread Maker as per the directions on the box and use the Basic setting on the machine. The result is a perfect loaf every time. Not sickeningly sweet like that famous brand of Hawaiian bread and for me that's a good thing.
