Very happy with this $100 door bell
I don't understand why so much bad reviews ? I received this cam today, already installed at my front door, connected with Ring app... It was so easy ! Picture is clear, 1080HD, wired with my previous bell switch, no worries about the battery... Set up with Ring app takes 10 seconds, same for Alexa, same with my Fridge Samsung Family hub... again, so easy Only one thing matters, a good WiFi. It's the key ! I use 3 Eero pro so I have a strong Wifi everywhere inside and outside of my home but you can also use the Ring Chime pro, less expensive then Eero. It works well, I confirm and I was not paid for this review.

Better video quality, poor installation and mounting (Updated 6/6/2020)
Well where do i begin? I thought i was ordering the one with the removable battery but it was this one instead. I guess i'll hard wire it so i don't have to babysit my doorbell battery wise. Good 1080p Hd Video. good sound that comes put of the door bell (your voice). I also ordered the "All new ring chime pro" Only because it doubles as a door bell & a router extender. Have fun with it & stay safe.

Very happy with this $100 door bell
The media could not be loaded. I asked for this as a Christmas gift. My husband said, we live in the country, nobody bothers us, yeah right. I was able to file a police report and send them this video. The clarity is spot on for me. I received notification that a person was detected, logged on to the device at work, shared the video with 5 minutes. Well worth the money I think, the battery life is good as well.

Hmmmmm....
I just purchased them and then when found not working after reading all their info on line( why don’t they give phone numbers any more or make so hard to find ) finally spoke with tech who said that I’d more than 30 ft from router might not work. Wow nice to know and that for more money I can purchase a booster and that should fix the problem. Only reason I’m doing this is I’ll send them both back if not working . Why don’t they tell us this in the first place . Wasted 2 days and why don’t companies today give a phone number to talk to a human being in this country you can speak to for asssitance ? Look here on amazon and try and find numbers to get help not on bill or payment . I keep hearing we have become a service oriented country no longer manufacturing . Well where is the serivce ? Going on line to get info for non tech savvy people is not service

This is the 2nd generation ring not the ring 2. I got confused and bought a spare battery. It turns out you can’t change the battery. So that kinda sucks but I am also one of those people without doorbell wiring and stuck with battery. But it all works fine - very easy setup and they provided a drill bit too - which surprised me.

Warning must be installed close to router or might not work
By far the best purchase I’ve made on amazon in a long long time and believe me I shop on here daily. We have a door that you can’t really see who is coming at the front of the house and initially I wanted this so that I could see who is knocking or ringing the doorbell. (And this device definitely does that it alerts you when there is a visitor at your door and you can have a contactless conversation with them in real time) Sooo... also being a smart mother with teenagers I wanted some thing that would capture our teenagers movements. ( you know keep/force them to be honest). Yes you heard me! I have kids that like to think that they are sneaky and that mom and dad do not know. Upon hooking up the ring doorbell device we have learned that we will be now purchasing two of the flood light ring devices for our back doors, as the teenagers have decided to try to sneak out the back of the house after bedtime. The ring doorbell device and it’s recording capabilities are great I’m able to see people who come up to the door as well as when kids leave for school on time… Or try to sneak out after bedtime. The real time alerts assist me in answering the door and grounding the kids properly. This is one of the best devices that we have in our home, I mean, I thought the Rumba was great because it cut down on me yelling for someone to please sweep the floor. BUT the door bell alerts me immediately when someone is coming or going. I’m very happy to say that ring has forced my teens to bond with one and other...yes I know it has become my teenagers number one enemy. Instead of being mad at each other for snitching... they are collectively mad at the ring for existing. It is literally helping us parent by teaching my teenagers a lesson instantly consequences for their actions that I hope they take with them when they have children. I am extremely happy with this doorbell and will be purchasing Two (maybe 3) floodlights with cameras for the back exits soon.

Ring 2nd gen NOT ring 2. Battery can’t be changed.
i love my ring video door bell..it has night vision witch looks awesome..i was about 80 miles from my home it my phone went off showing me that someone was at my front door..it rings 3 places on my phone on my computer and at the door..it's just awesome to feel safe at night..and it records every thing..it was so easy to hook up to my doorbell wires...they give you extra parts and it helps you get started with a push of a button on the back...

Parents love, kids despise
The video is nice- it’s clear and good image. At night, the image is good, too. I do have night lights out there, too. Set up was easy and the app seems to work well. The problem...motion detection. I live in Florida, so everything is flat, there isn’t an issue with sight line, but I can walk by the doorbell, up to the doorbell and after standing in front of it for about 10 seconds it will notice me. It will notice the delivery people about the time they are getting back to their truck. I have gone into the app and the settings repeatedly and can’t get it any better. ************UPDATE************* Ring read my initial review (above) and contacted me to help me out. IMPRESSIVE!! Let me share some of the things I learned about the settings. The setting capturing frequency- if it’s set to conserve battery life, it will only capture motion around every 10-15 minutes regardless of being in front of the door. It will of course be responsive to a ring. I changed that setting to ‘frequent’ and what a difference! It uses battery life faster, but it captures all motion. But then I was getting captures from every car going by, even though the street is about 60 feet away, so Ring sent a wedge so I could angle it down a little (Florida being so flat, there is little visual distinction for the camera). So, thank you Max, from RING, for being so helpful. I can’t say enough about customer service! And I really, REALLY, like my Ring Doorbell now! So much so that I am going to get my Mom one for a gift! I might get one for the side door, too. ******another update**** I take responsibility for not understanding the service plan- but..... I’m shocked at how scaled back the doorbell is without the monthly subscription plan! The description stated “subscription needed for advance functions...(sic) like share and save for 60 days”. So I thought- I have no desire to share videos and don’t need to save video beyond a few hours if anything comes up while I’m at work. Well, I was wrong! You get bubkis. You still get notified if the video is triggered, but by the time the app boots up the person is long gone. You have the ability to look through the camera live, and if someone rings the doorbell if you answer it that moment, you can see them and speak with them. But no reviewing the video, not even one minute. I feel I already paid a lot for the doorbell, that paying every month is prohibitive for me. I will likely move this elsewhere in my home, maybe somewhere I can check in on the dogs, and get a doorbell that has an SD card. I love the concept of the video doorbell, but will find a different option for me and my mom.

I have just upgraded my 1st generation Ring Doorbell with this new 2nd Generation Ring Doorbell. PROS: 1) The same mounting plate dimensions/holes as the 1st generation I could install it to the same 3rd party wedge mount which I got for the 1st generation saving me $20 to buy a new one. 2) Better video quality: The 1080p video is noticeably better than the 1st generation's 720p . 3) Better connectivity: The 2nd generation seems to connect better. When I ask Alexa to display the video on Echo Show, it sometimes took forever with 1st generation. The 2nd generation seems to connect more reliably. 4) Motion sensor: I have not tested this just yet but I am sure it is better with the new zone setting and else. CONS: 1) Trade-in discount did not apply: When I ordered it, it asked if I wanted to trade the old one by showing "Upgrade and save by trade-in" right above "Add to cart" right on the product page. I proceeded to take advantage of it. My request was accepted and received email confirming $10 credit for the old one and 20% discount on the new one. Great I thought and I went back to the product page, added the item in the cart, and proceeded to place the order. However, I could not see the 20% discount applied to the item, while I did get the $10 credit. I ended up calling Amazon and got the courtesy credit worth the 20%, but it was just lame. Why do they ask you to trade in when it does not work for the product? 2) Lower quality mounting hardware: The 1st generation came with a quick connect so it was a little easier to connect wires if you go with hardwired installation. However, once the installation is done, it is no issue because you never take the doorbell off unless you live in some cold area like some reviewers here and still need to remove it to charge. If that's the case, I recommend you using a connector like the one in the picture I attached. If you just go with the battery only installation, I do not see much difference. You remove two screws and remove the whole doorbell to charge. Personally, I would not choose this model if I were planning without hardwired connection. Overall, I am happy with the upgrade.

Not so great-at first- but Ring helped
Just as described! I have been looking into a ring doorbell for a few years now. My biggest concern was buying one and not being able to use it because I didn’t have an existing doorbell. Well with this one I don’t need one! I love that it is battery powered. (And so much cheaper than the new one) It took about 10 mins from start to finish - to install the app, get it working and mount the doorbell. It has been installed and on for 23 days now and the battery life is at 86%. Once the battery is dying it says it will send a notification through the app. You do have to unmount the whole doorbell in order to charge it (it plugs into the back). But that’s the only down side I see to it!

Very happy with this $100 door bell
I always was curious about Ring so I finally decided to try. Glad I did! This has really been a nice addition to our house. Picture is very clear. Picks up motion and people in the area. I haven't done it but I believe you can turn down the sensitivity on the motion if its too much for you. Mine picks up cars as they drive on the street and alerts me. Detects animals , cars, people and sometimes when its really windy, a tree my activate it. Overall, I feel good about this purchase and makes me feel a little safer. Easy to install. Comes with a few pieces you may need for installation.

Better video quality, poor installation and mounting (Updated 6/6/2020)
Initially, the price pulled me in, it’s the quality that deserves 5 Stars. I have a tree & bushes near my porch, yet the Ring isn’t fooled. I’ve only had a couple “Motion Detected” in 3 weeks - usually the garbage truck for some odd reason. I’m so impressed that I’ll be getting at least one more for the front of my house. Maybe an odd “selling point,” but I like having the option of “Community Alerts.” Knowing what other neighbors are experiencing, helps me be more vigilant and interactive with neighbors. Oh, and the Community Board is completely anonymous. I cannot beat the price for peace of mind. If you are on a budget - or just not interested in a major alarm company contract, get Ring. Oh, make sure your WiFi is strong. I’m getting a booster for my modem to speed up viewing recorded incidents as they happen. Live viewing is great - and I’ve not had any issues with rain interfering with recording.

Ring
So pleased with this doorbell! We bought this because of recent activity in our neighborhood. I have to say that the motion detection on it is amazing. I had to adjust the motion ranges though because it kept picking up when our neighbor (directly across the road from us!) would open her door! I wouldn't be able to tell what "motion" it was picking up on at first, but when I zoomed in, I realized it detected motion THAT far away and had to reset the motion settings. I love the "people only" option that it has and it allows me to focus on what is truly important instead of having alerts every time a dog or cat runs across our yard. The customization of the motion settings and privacy settings have really come a long way since the Ring first came out and I'm very happy with the result.

Peace of mind for one hundred bucks drew me in
Overall, my expectations were definitely exceeded after reading reviews and going ahead anyways. I have vinyl siding and porch steps,so I purchased a wedge kit knowing I would want the ring looking down the way it would sit against the siding. Just order the wedge kit if you have a raised porch, it makes life good. I also hardwired my ring to an inside outlet with a power adapter, because the thought of worrying about batteries on a vital home security object worried me. With it set up exactly as I have it, having spent an extra 40$ or so on wedges and power adaptors, it is a 5 star product. This doorbell, stand alone, has the crappiest plate to sit against! It's horrible! The battery takes hours to charge up, if I hadn't hard wired it, I would have 4-6 hours of downtime every month or 2 to charge, which involves keeping track of a special tool for security screws. I know that's a small window of time, but I expect 24/7 security from a home security product. The night vision blows my hair back! I thought it would rely on my porch lights, it doesn't need it AT ALL! And I can see 4 or 5 houses down the road to either side, you can even ZOOM IN to see the action! Because I bought this product on sale, I would call it a 100$ fabulous value for what it does and the security it truly does provide my home. At full price I'd have been irked about needing 40$ in accessories for it to function fully as advertised. -needs to be hard wired for reliability -needs a wedge kit if you have steps/vinyl siding -mounting plate is of horrible quality and ring seats funny BUT is corrected and holds fast w additions of wedge kit for some reason. -almost useless without paying 3$ a month for subscription (30$ a year for constant home protection is a bargain and is competitive price) beware if you want more than 1 doorbell, you will need to pay 10$/mo instead of 3. -it can be mildly annoying always catching YOU coming & going and always alerting you +You can set snooze times for the alerts, and exclude your coming and going days/times for less alerts. +Motion zones are user friendly and awesome feature +Highly customizable alerts, timing, recording, sharing of videos, snooze and chime options. +App is very user friendly and a joy most days +Night vision and wide angle are SUPURB camera is always clear +I have not had ANY Wi-Fi issues on cheap-o 25mbps service +Install is rather simple if you're not hardwiring. If you know what you're getting yourself into, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this older ring doorbell.

Comforting and Helpful
Very easy to install. Very easy to use. Nice crystal clear picture. App is straight forward. I recommend hard wiring it, because battery life is very short. If you don't have existing door bell wiring, you can buy an AC power adapter on Amazon. I also LOVE the way it's tied to Alexa and she says "Someone is at the front door" when a visitor pushes the button.

Great value great product, needs accessories
Great product, don't Waste time and effort on the other brands. Very easy install wired right in where my existing doorbell button was, I had to extend the wires Slightly but it was no big deal at all as I already had everything I needed to do it on hand. The packaging did indicate but there were provided wire extenders but there was not, but thats definitely not a big deal considering you can even install it wirelesslyand just recharge it periodically. As I said we already had a wired doorbell but if you do not it can be used with the battery and echo dots work well as chimes, So if you already have a dot and no wired doorbell you don't necessarily have to buy a chime to go with it, we use it so we can hear it in the laundry room or when I'm in the garage. We don't have amazing wifi and havent had issues with it connecting yet

Nice!
Ok, we waited a long time to join the Ring club. I do like it. I'm always home, so it's nice to have this and be alerted when packages are dropped off at the door. The motion detection is great. We don't have a huge front porch, so at night, if a car passes by, sometimes we get an alert. So, I think the motion detection is sensitive and works fine. The night vision I think is decent. We can see the faces of visitors and we are happy with the night vision. My main problem and complaint is the wifi signal with this item. If I get an alert that someone is at the door and I click to see who is there, it takes 30 to a minute to show me the live feed of who is at the door. I can't answer the door through Ring if it takes that long to see the live video, as most people are gone and don't wait that long at the door. Also, sometimes the video of motion detected is completely black. It happens intermittently. Another problem is that the video is sometimes frozen for a few seconds and looks glitchy. Lastly, be aware that this item is useless unless you purchase the Ring membership. They sell it monthly or annually. Monthly, it is $3 a month. With the membership, it records motion videos and you can share them if you need to with the police or neighbors. If you don't have the membership, this doorbell doesn't record anything.

does absolutely everything its supposed to.
The Ring camera system has to be one of the best ideas I've seen so far. There's nothing that I didn't like about this home security system. There are so many options to choose from and it can be customized In so many ways to fit your needs. You can add on motion sensors, video cameras, motion detectors, door and window sensors and more. There's no reason why you can't cover every inch of your home with the endless possibilities from Ring. The system comes ready to go right out the box and is easily set up. You choose what you want to cover. From just a front door to every square inch of your space as you can add and expand your ring security system for whatever your need. I love features of the system. The video and picture quality are exceptional and the night vision quality was way better than I expected given the great price of the system and components. Even better still is the ability to purchase and expand your system as you go along, and adding more components is about as easy as it can get, as it only takes just a few minutes to add and set up and customize each part to your liking. I could go on for a few hours telling about the system but I think you get the idea. This is perfect for any type of home, apartment or dwelling as long as you have a Wi-Fi signal. And the price definitely makes it affordable for everyone. I would give the ring security system three thumbs up if I had an extra thumb, But two will do.

Some issues
I am satisfied with our doorbell camera, but if anything, the motion detection could be better. This was our first RING purchase, so I am not familiar with how it compares to other varieties or generations. We have our Ring doorbell installed beside a set of stairs, and it seems that the handrails block just enough so that the camera does not really detect until someone is RIGHT in front of it. By the time the actual video is triggered, about half of the activity is actually missed before someone goes inside the front door. Luckily, we have now connected our RING doorbell to other smart lighting at the bottom of the stairs so that when the lighting is triggered, the doorbell will also turn on. This helps to improve capture, but it also causes unnecessary battery use on occasion. At the end of the day, I'd rather use up battery but still capture more video than potentially miss something. The video quality is good and night vision satisfactory. The camera and microphone work well. We ended up connecting our RING to an after market solar panel so that it maintains battery for a longer period of time. I am very satisfied with our purchase and would definitely recommend this product in the future.

A winner of a system
I love this thing. I love being able to see the outside of my house. I have two Ring cameras and I decided that I would go all out (on a budget) and get this one. You do have to unscrew it from the mount to charge it but who cares. I have a camera in the front and I just use that for motion and alerts. The doorbell does do motion and alerts but I am saving the battery and have those turned off. (Installed 4 days ago and battery is at 98% with a few drop ins' here and there). I'll drop in sometimes and see the front door. The picture quality is great during the day and night. Unfortunately I had a mailbox in the wall right next to where I needed to put it (4' off the ground from the porch). So, I did 5'. This makes you wish you bought an angle thing with it (for 20$? No. Absolutely not). I live with the angle, which isn't bad, you just wish it could look down a bit. Think about this before you buy. Do you need it angled to the left or right? May not be for you... seems to need a straight look forward at 4' off the surface you are standing on, but you wish it could tilt. This sucker is anchored into the wall though. READ THIS!: It does not "ring" or "chime" on your Ring security base station. If you have a Ring home security system then this won't sound on it. It will make a sound on your phone and an echo show but other than that, you have to BUY some kind of Ring Chime thing. Terrible idea to make you spend more. Other than that, I love this thing. I get it, Covid, nobody can come over...but will they after Covid? Time will tell. If not, it looks pretty cool on the front. I drilled 1/4" holes in the brick, put in the anchors, banked that sucker to the wall and she is looking good. "Hey Alexa baby, show me the front door... Oh, yeah."
