Sonic is on a roll!
Seems like this really has been the year of Sonic the hedgehog! Started the year with a great sequel to the 1st sonic movie and now this. I've just started and the game is already one of the best Sonic games I've played in years. This is definitely the right direction for the franchise. I hope Sonic continues to have great games just like this one!

Might be the best 3D Sonic ever made.
I grow up adoring Sonic the Hedgehog as a kid. Sonic 1 - 3 and Knuckles are special games to my childhood. Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast also holds a place in my heart as the only 3D Sonic I thought was worth playing - though it hasn’t held up at all. Everything after that has been nonsense outside of Generations and Mania. Sonic Frontiers seems to take some inspiration from Mario 64 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Music is super mellow, the world is largely beautiful outside of bad pop in and some strange graphical choices. There are important things to collect from racing stages that remind me a bit of the “paintings” in Mario 64. If you clear a challenge you get important Vault Keys to collect Chaos Emeralds. These stages seem bug free and well designed. Even if Sonic isn’t always easy to control. 100%ing these stages are a lot of fun. So far it seems Sega put some thought into the combat. But what I think might set Frontiers apart in this series is how well structured everything else. It’s not a mindless collection game. It seems to provide a wide variety of things to do in the zone without getting repetitive. If you ever wanted to support good 3D Sonic games, this is the best one in over a decade.

A good Sonic game
While not a perfect game (which no game ever is) this is indeed a fun Sonic title. Welcome back Sonic!
