Smells a whole lot better than vinegar!
Sure, you can use vinegar, but the cost is about the same, and Affresh tabs smell a whole lot better, plus the box of tabs is way lighter, and stores in a much, much smaller space. One thing that really helps these work even better is to do as directed (water level high, temp hot), but after the washer fills and agitates for a couple of minutes - shut the washer off, and let it sit and soak with the lid closed. I let it sit for about 15-20 minutes, continue agitating for a couple of minutes, then stop the washer again for another 15-20 minutes, continue agitating for a couple of minutes, stop the washer again, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then start the washer and let it complete the wash cycle. The extra soak time really makes a difference.

Just ok, but C.L.R. works MUCH better for smells and soap scum
Our new LG washer gets a stinky smell every so often so I bought these tabs. I put one in a month on the clean tub setting and it eliminates the odor. I just made a T-chart with a permanent marker on the box for the months and add an X when I put the tab in for the month. This way I don't miss a month and my washer runs great.

Smells a whole lot better than vinegar!
I live in an apartment with truly terrible maintenance. My washer/dryer unit had to be replaced when the dryer started leaving rust streaks on my clothes, and first they brought me a replacement that didn't work at all, then they brought me a working but DISGUSTING one that was full of somebody else's dirt, lint, and caked-on blue detergent. The washer had been left closed for an extended period of time, and even though it's not a front loader, it smelled utterly vile. The liquid detergent had both molded and then dried out to form a crust. Ewwwwww!!! I debated whether it was worth the effort of fighting with management further and decided I'd deal with it myself. (Yes, I know I should move rather than put up with this nonsense. It's just an awful lot of trouble.) I tried running a hot water wash, which helped a little. Bleach was some help too. Vinegar didn't seem to do much. After my home remedy tricks, it was better, but still not usable. Finally, Affresh fixed the mess. I got the tablets and the wipes and between the two, succeeded in getting rid of the gross. So if you've got a college boy level of disgusting going on in your washer, this will do the trick.

This way I don't miss a month and my washer runs great.
Washer started smelling a bit funky several months after we got it. I didn't understand why I couldn't just run bleach in my machine to clean it out occasionally, until I actually ran one of these tablets (free sample with my washer) The key is that the tablet goes in the washer drum, and doesn't dissolve right away. So as the washer runs through several repeated cycles of fill, agitate, and drain - the tablet is still there, sudsing up the water on cycle #2 and #3. If you just put bleach in the soap dispenser, it would all be gone after cycle #1. Also, this gets very sudsy and that probably helps it reach some areas of the machine that wouldn't otherwise get touched.

Fixed disgusting used washer's funk
6/7/20 UPDATE: My machine must have had quite the embarrassing buildup (6 yrs worth) Yikes! After flinging the box of Affresh to the back of my cabinet for a few months, I fished it out to give it one last try using warm/cold water & frowned over the dirty mildew smell. Ugg. True Test: NO PROMPTING, pay or whatever people do to write positive reviews. Next and last time before throwing them out, I used cold/cold setting to wash my dogs bedding & closed the door for five days, rather than leaving the door open to air out. I recruited a couple of friends for “Operation Stink”. Bracing ourselves to recoil from a toxic, wet dog stinky odor, I eased the door open... FRESH AIR with a clean scent. Lovely! Now we all use it once a month for Affresh fresh washing machine. REVIEW #1: Before Affresh: I’d drain the water from my machine, leave the door open, run the self-clean cycle with bleach…all the things I'm supposed to do regularly but still got the musty smell so I purchased these cleaner tabs. I tried one tab, didn't work, two tabs, didn't work, tried two again, all back to back and I couldn't detect any change in the smell. I then used distilled white vinegar. It worked better than bleach and these tablets. Thus, a one star rating.

I missed the part....
I bought this to clean out my rolling garbage cans I inherited when I moved in. OMG they well stunk like garbage. Well I missed the part where you need a pressure washer buy oh well too late. Poured it in cans, tried to fill up with water (holes in bottom for drainage), end of getting cans on side let soak for just a few minutes and rinse well (it is concentrated). And that stench of garbage smell was gone.it did take me some time to rinse off ground because it looked like milk in the street but I would buy it again.

Fantastic scent great cleaning.
Ok, I have read other reviews including the actual manufacturer site that say the smell is obnoxious. NOT AT ALL! This smells fantastic and I wish actual laundry detergent still had this scent. When done cleaning the washer the room and washer smells great. To me it smells like the powered Tide detergent did 20 years ago. We have rental washers (about 80) In various properties that sit for periods of time over the summer and we use this to freshen the stale smell from that idle time. Sadly most washer machines today are energy efficient, so the hot water is always mixed with cold. The secret is to turn off the cold water supply so the washer uses 100% hot water because this works best when the water is hot. Stay with the cycle because the rinse is NEVER done with hot water so the cold will have to be turned back on or the cycle will stall. After cleaning you may have to run the washer again to wash away the debris that was loosened by this product.

Fantastic scent great cleaning.
With three children it is necessary for me to pretreat their clothes frequently. It is so frustrating when I can't get the stains out! This product works like a charm and really gets the job done. So far it has tackled every stain I have thrown at it including blood, dirt, grass, and grease to name a few. It contains oxi which is an added stain fighter. Just spray it on, rub it in, and let it sit awhile before you launder. This is my new favorite stain remover!

Does your clothes washer smell like a wet dog?
I had doubts this would work on clothing with stains that were set in material from already dryer dried. I was pleasantly and shockingly surprised at how well it worked. It removed lipstick stain from a tube of lipstick being left in my husbands jeans pocket (we love their empty pockets and fill them accordingly) he hadn’t removed and washed with my white jean jacket. I had dried in dryer and stains were on all jeans in load. This removed every set in stain. I did spray the evening before and let set overnight before washing next morning!!! Amazing!!!

Works great at removing tough stains
Have an LG and noticed a smell. Tried the popular competing brand and went through a whole bunch of cleaning cycles and was not that happy. I called LG and they said to switch to Tide. We did and we like it. Smell is gone. You may have to apply two or three, or more, cleaning cycles to get rid of the problem. Tide worked. Just used it again for prevention. With an LG, anyway, you may get tiny black specs after a cleaning cycle that come up from beneath the tub. They stick and need to be rubbed off with a dry or wet rag.

Will no longer live within this!
I've used these for years. They're the only thing that get the disastrous wet dog, dirty belly button and gym clothes smell out of my front load washer. I use them every 6 weeks or so which is how long it takes for my washer to smell like a New York strip club on a Sunday morning. After using, make sure you leave the washer door open to air out the fumes of sin and welcome the Tide of sanity back into your home, and washer. A+, would recommend.

a better choice
This really works! I was hesitant at first, but so happy I tried it. Our washing machine is only a few years old, but it had smelling like mold for about a year. We tried everything from bleach, vinegar, consistently leaving it open to dry, running the dehumidifier next to the machine, etc. Nothing seemed to clear the smell. I purchased this washing machine cleaner and ran it through the machine (per directions). Similar to other reviewers, I found the scent to be quite overpowering. It wasn't a bad smell, actually smells quite nice, but it was just very strong. After 3-5 loads if laundry, the scent subsided and the moldy smell has not returned. I plan to run half a packet through on a consistent basis to maintain a clean machine. Overall, I am so happy I tried this product. Would be excellent to use in between tenants for any rental property to maintain a clean washing machine.

Best washing machine cleaner
I am a long term user of Tide Washing Machine Cleaner. I have found it is the only cleaner actually keeping my washing machine from accumulating mildew, over a long period of time. I tried numerous other brands, with some actually having no effect. The reviews mentioning the scent are partially correct. The scent has changed significantly with the new packaging. The original scent was very pleasant, and helped to keep the drum clean and fresh. The new scent if not as pleasant, however still acceptable. The cleaning is still good, and, I still find it the only washing cleaner that actually works.

This really works!
Folks, this stuff works wonders on used washers for cleaning out mildew and whatever buildup is inside your washer. Have a stacker unit in my place and cleared up the musty smell that had developed. That said, you MUST open a window when using it, as there is a very strong chemical smell that it gives off. Also, if you are of the sensitive-skin type, definitely recommend run another load immediately after the cleaning finishes to thoroughly rinse it out, something like bath mats or shower curtains that will not directly contact your skin for long periods. I didn't have any problems, but recommended it to a neighbor and she complained that she had issues with the first load after cleaning, but nothing else afterwards. If you take these two precautions, you will be very satisfied with this.

Tide Washing Machine Cleaner Review
I was given a sample after a color run about 5 years ago. Since then they have remained essential in my laundry supply! I use gentle detergent, so oxyclean on stuff, and always a color catcher. I recently had a tie dye party and used a cloth on the hot wash and a new one on the cold to keep the dye from lingering. Wonderful for outdoor workout clothes or anything else that gets really dirty. I have a work uniform of black pants and a black or white shirt, so i can throw a small Mixed load and not have to worry.

Fantastic scent great cleaning.
I purchased this washing machine cleaner about a year ago. I was using another brand and was hesitant to switch. I recently used this in my frontloading washer and was very happy. It does have a stronger but pleasant scent then other products I have used. My washer drum has never smelled so clean and pleasant. The scent has lasted for over 10 wash cycles. I don't find it unpleasant. It really seem like it did a good job on my washer. The dealmaker was when I went to clean my washer filter and drain reservoir. I usually do this once a month and no matter what product I have used it smells pretty rank. This time it smelled pleasant. The washer filter was already clean and without residue. That is a first! I think this product does an excellent job. I have used a handful of other products to clean my washer and this is going to be my go to from now on. I do have an LG machine and I did notice that the product created suds when I used it but there was no codes that came up or lights that came on indicating a problem. It has been almost 3 weeks in my washer still has a very pleasant smell. I'm a little OCD but whenever I do a wash cycle I do wipe down the rubber fittings in the drum and do take out the detergent drawer and put it on the top and I have a fan that sits in front of the washing machine and blows for 1/2 hour to dry everything out. That seems to really prolong the life of the machine. Overall I would highly recommend this product.

Sliced bread was good, this is the best thing since....
I’m obsessed with this product. I have been desperately looking for a stain remover to get all the pesky stains from my kids clothes. I have tried them all and this one by far takes the cake. I love that you can spray it on ans leave for up to a week to let it do it’s magic on the stain before you wash the clothes. I haven’t found a stain it can’t get out yet and that includes some of the peskier ones like blueberries and blood. Highly recommend this product for every laundry room

Caustic But Effective
These smell so so so good! Not your normal tide smell if your kinda tired of that this is different. It also works great as known about tide to be a great product all around. My washer is black from the mold buildup that occured before it was mine it belonged to someone else and the new front load washers you have to leave the door open after a wash to let dry if you don't plan to wash another load or you wipe it dry. Well that person didn't and I don't blame them but I needed a washer and my bf found it on side of road with someone's trash and only thing it needed was a $2.99 piece that went to the door to make it lock closed. And it was a new washer to me. But I've cleaned it with white vinegar and baking soda together and separate and it also helps with smell. But these spell way better then vinegar and they work just as well. Deff work the money. Just buy them don't think about it your money won't be wasted and if you don't like them well don't worry move on to the next thing. Anyways I'm Anthony's gf doing this review. Js.

Best stain treatment I have found
This does have a decent chemical smell, but also smells fresh to some extent; either way, it is way better than the smell of mold or mildew in the washing machine. I suggest using this once only when needed (based on smell). Follow the directions completely… place directly in tub, use with regular/normal wash (not cleaning cycle), and with hot water. I personally like to add an extra rinse cycle just in case, and for an extra deep clean; open the door to air dry immediately after, and you cannot go wrong at all.

These work Great!
Works great and gets the musty smell out of the front load washer

No more mildew smell!
Never realized we should have been using this washing machine cleaner. Residue had built up in the washer and it smelled like something awful was growing or drying in the laundry room. Daughter suggested this product so I bought it and after just the first use I noticed a world of difference. Will use it once a week for three weeks as recommended, then once a month to keep things smelling fresh.

Took the awful smell out of our laundry room that had been developing!
Have been buying this in stores (Target) and except for when it first came out, the smell while powerful, has not been overwhelming. This time I bought from a 3rd party and I must say the perfume smell is outrageous. Its like somebody dropped a bottle of cheap perfume in the laundry room. Used this shipment 3 times and then threw the rest away. Went back to the store (Target) and while Tide could stand to reduce the perfume additive even more, the newer store purchases are not nearly as aromatic. Beginning to wonder where the 3rd party sellers get their supply. Noticed it also had product name in French which leads me to think Canada. In any case, will continue to use as I find it works better than Affresh at removing the light brown crude that appears in the wash if I don't clean. I am now using once a month in HE top loader and I have no odor or crude residue in the was. Finally, Tide if you're watching... Your product works, NOW REMOVE more of the perfume.
